Governance

Samoa Rowing Association is being formally constituted in Samoa. This page says where that process stands and is updated as each step is completed.

Where the Association stands (as at 3 October 2026)

  • Registration: the Samoa Rowing Association was incorporated under the Incorporated Societies Ordinance 1952 on 16 September 2026, Incorporated Society No. 946. The Registrar required a name distinct from an existing entry on the register, so the registered legal name is Samoa Rowing Association New Day Incorporated; the Association trades as the Samoa Rowing Association.
  • Constitution: adopted by the founding members at the Association's inaugural General Assembly on 3 October 2026. Drafted to align with the World Rowing Statutes and the IOC Basic Universal Principles of Good Governance. A copy is available on request.
  • Officers: elected by the founding members at that General Assembly — President Daniel Marquardt, Secretary Fa'amausili Solo Brown, Treasurer Amaramo Alesana Sialaoa. The Secretary and the Treasurer are resident in Samoa and are the Association's local contacts, as the constitution requires.
  • Registered office: Moto'otua, Apia.
  • Affiliations: World Rowing lists the Samoa Rowing Association as its member federation for Samoa, a member since 2000. Recognition by SASNOC, Samoa's national sports and Olympic body, follows local registration; the Association has submitted its registration documents and that process is under way.
  • Membership: fifteen founding members subscribed to the registration application. Membership is open, and applications are considered by the Executive Committee.

Selection and integrity

A national selection policy — published objective criteria, with conflict-of-interest recusal where a candidate is related to a selection panel member — has been drafted for adoption at the September 2026 General Assembly, alongside the Association's conflict-of-interest provisions. For transparency: Samoa's 2026 entered athlete, Alia Marquardt, is the daughter of the President, who also serves as team coach for the 2026 Oceania programme; the constitution and selection policy are designed so that future selection is objective and independently overseen.

Safeguarding

Samoa Rowing follows World Rowing's safeguarding standards in all its activities. The Association's own safeguarding policy is in preparation for adoption with the constitution in September 2026.
