Daniel rowed for Samoa at the 2016 Olympic qualification regatta for Asia and Oceania and at the 2017 World Rowing Championships — among the few appearances under the Samoan flag in the federation's history. A Samoan citizen with family roots in Malie, he leads the Association's re-establishment: the September 2026 general assembly in Apia, the constitution prepared for adoption, and Samoa's return to World Rowing's Oceania development programme.

Gafa — village ancestry
The Marquardt line descends from the village of Malie, Upolu, through Daniel's grandfather, born at Malie, and his family before him — a documented gafa the family carries with respect for Malie and its people.
